The Art of Wes Henry
Capturing Western Wildlife
Living in foothills of the Rocky Mountains, I paint the large animals that shape this landscape: bison, bears, moose, elk, not as distant wildlife, but as powerful presences encountered in the wild. Standing before them, I have felt both small and deeply connected, and my work seeks to hold that tension. Through oil paint, expressive brushwork, and dramatic single-subject compositions, I emphasize the relationship between figure and ground to create a moment of stillness and intensity. Whether in full color or monochromatic studies, my aim is to convey their awe, strength, and quiet dignity inviting the viewer into a direct, almost reverent encounter.

Artist Statement
This is my first official year as an oil painter. Before oil painting I was a digital artist for 4 years honing my skills. Before that I was a Creative Director in Chicago for 15 years. A long journey all leading to this. I will paint for the rest of my life getting better one piece at a time.
